One Project Leads to Another

Hi All,

We have bee some busy bees around here.  We had a wonderful time with our family and friends celebrating Mattie's Birthday.  I can't even believe that my sweet baby girl is FIVE!!!  How did that even happen?!?!  She is totally the coolest five year old I know.  Her laugh is infectious, and when you hear it, it makes you want to laugh too.  She is stubborn and independent.  She has the best sense of humor and she is also tender hearted, and generous.  We are so incredibly blessed that we get to be her parents.

Now that I have been all mushy, lets get to house stuff.  We have had endless projects at our house, and one project just leads to another.  It is slowly starting to come together, little by little.  The first thing we did when we got back was to paint the exterior of our house. The paint was faded and outdated to say the least.  Painting it made the hugest difference.  It brought our little baby back to life, and made me remember how cute and pretty she is :) We decided to go with a grey and I LOVE it!!!  It was a much needed update.  Below are the before and after pictures.  Warning the before pic is super old, but it is the only one I could find.

Yikes!!!!  Check that out.  She for sure needed some TLC!!

YAY!!!!  Look how pretty!!  We also added the hardware to the garage doors, which looks so great.

I love how the paint turned out!  It just freshened up the outside of our house so much.  I am so glad that it was one of the first things we decided to do.

Our next project was the floors on the main floor of our house.  We had some old carpet in the living room and dining room, and some really ugly linoleum in the kitchen, half bath, and laundry room.  We had been wanting to replace it all with hardwoods even before we left, but had just been putting it off.  When we found out we were moving and going to be gone for 2 years, we decided that we wouldn't do anything to the house until we returned.  Floors were for sure at the top of our list when we came home.  After having a few conversations with my Dad he convinced me we could do it ourselves.  I was a little intimidated, but my Dad has laid floors before so that made me more comfortable.  Deep down I was super excited to take this on.

This was not the easiest project.  First, Adam and I had to rip up the carpet and all the tack boards that holds the carpet in place.  Yikes, it was crazy.  We also had to pull up some glued down hardwoods in the entry.  That ended up being a nightmare!!  I felt so bad that Adam was charged with that task.  He literally spent all day one day with a tool we rented prying up that floor.

Not a great picture of the ugly linoleum, but trust me it was hideous!!
Time to get rid of the carpet!!  Don't mind the paint swatches on the wall, trying to pick a paint color.
This was a beast to get up!!
I mean really?!?!?  This much glue was needed on each piece of wood?!?!
Things got serious...
Real serious!!
Goodbye ugly carpet!  Don't mind those worn out couches, they are on their way out too!!

Carpet out, and enjoying some cartoons on bare concrete floors:)
Because we had to basically jack hammer the hardwood floor out of the entry, my dad and I had to pour a concrete filler to fix all the holes.  This was unchartered territory for both of us, but we did it, and it worked great!  My dad is pretty awesome at this kind of stuff!

Now, that is some damaged concrete!!!

Everything patched, it took like 48 hours for it to dry before we could lay the floor.
After getting this patched it was time to start laying floors!!!!

Since the above picture was taken, I scored this awesome rug for the living room :)  Now just waiting on the new living room furniture to be delivered.

I am super pleased with how the floors turned out. It made the main floor feel so much bigger and open. Mad props to my dad and his wife who spent their days off each week for like a month coming and helping us get this accomplished.  I am in love!  I pretty much fell in love with saws and tools while we were doing this project.  I'm basically one project away from building us a house.  LOL.  Just kidding.  But, it was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work.  Adam and I both feel super accomplished, and it has made us less afraid of taking on some projects in our house ourselves.    We hit a few bumps along the way, but in the end it was totally worth it.

Lastly, a picture of my Mattie Grace, because how can you not end on this cute little face :)

XOXO
Back in Gymnastics and loving it!
