This Crazy Life!

Things have been some what quiet around here finally!  I think we are finally getting into our groove and settling into our everyday life here in California.

As some of you know, Mattie has been such a handful lately.  Behaviors that we really haven't seen before have been popping up.  She has had such a sassy mouth and has flat out refused to do things (i.e. get dressed, let me wash her hair, basically anything I have asked her to do!)  Needless to say this first month of us being home together has been challenging.  I was considering developing a drinking habit!  Just kidding, but there were days that she almost brought me to tears!  No lie!  45 minutes to get her dressed and finally having to hold her down and dress her while she was kicking and screaming is not my idea of a fun activity.  By the end of it we would both be wore out and sweating!  We finally just started having her sit on her bed until she was ready to get dressed in kind of a "timeout"  I would go in and ask her every few minutes if she was ready to get dressed.  In the beginning she would just cross her arms and say no, but as we have continued to do it the time has gotten shorter and shorter.  It took a solid week of doing that, but it seems to have worked, as we are now not having as many of the getting dressed battles.  Yea parenting!  No one tells you when you get pregnant how hard parenting is sometimes.  Having these battles and standing your ground is not easy!  Where is that Staples easy button when you need it!

To her defense this has been a huge change.  She went from going to school everyday and seeing her friends, to spending all day with me!!!  Maybe not the highlight of her year :)  She always loved going to school and she has been use to the stimulation and interaction in a classroom.  I have really struggled with taking her out of school.  While I LOVE getting to spend more time with her, and LOVE not feeling guilty about working so much, I hate that she is missing out on all the advantages of school.  Adam and I are seriously considering putting her in school a couple of mornings a week at the beginning of the year.  We will see.  Thoughts???

Now that we have the condo settled and our lives in order Mattie and I have more time to get out and about and do some fun stuff (which seems to have helped with the crazy behavior).  Last week we had a play date with one of Adam's co-workers' wife and their children.  Mattie had a blast.  It was so nice to get to see her interact with other children.  We went to the park and the girls ran around and played and had such a great time.  There was a huge slide that Mattie loved!

On Tuesday Mattie had her first Gymnastics class.  I was only able to get a couple of pictures because it was parent participation as well.  I am hoping now that we will be going weekly I will be able to get some more pictures and videos.  She had a blast.  I literally had to drag her out of the gym.

We also enjoyed some time at the park.  The video was a little long so I had to split it to get it off my phone.

As you can see she did not want me to take her picture.  Little did she know I was taking a video.  I had to pretend to sit my phone down so she would go down the slide!!  She is such a mess!

And that ladies and gentlemen is pretty much what we have been up to this past two weeks.  We have friends, Adam and Lauren coming to San Francisco this weekend, so we're really looking forward to getting to spend a day or two with them while they are in town.

Also Adam and I are super excited that our friends Nick and Michelle welcomed their sweet new baby boy Tyler into the world today!!  We are so thrilled for them and so excited to meet him while we are home during Christmas!  Getting the news of Tyler's arrival today ended our weekend on a high note!

Whatever Happen To Predictability, The Milk Man, The Paper Boy...

Ok, please tell me you just sang the theme song from Full House in your head!  Being here and going downtown (I will get to that story soon) always makes me want to sing that song!  Loved that show as a kid and I have been known to watch a re-run here and there.  I just wanted to come here and move into one of the Painted Lady's.  Since I am not currently living in one of those cool houses with Danny, Uncle Jesse, Uncle Joey, DJ, Stephanie, or Michelle I will just fill you all in on the hotspots in the Corrigans lives, like…Oh yes the DMV!

DMV Awesomeness!

So Adam and I had to officially become Californians.  We took a little adventure to the always enjoyable DMV.  Of course Mattie had to join us since none of you have moved out here so we would have a babysitter.  Keeping a 2 1/2 year old entertained while we had to fill out paperwork, get tags and take a written driving test was not easy.  Why yes you did hear that right, I said WRITTEN DRIVING TEST!!!!  So we are in line, haven't even taken the test yet and she is all antsy and all over the place.  Being the smart mom I am, I say "here Mattie play with my phone."  Little did I know that she would end up documenting our whole DMV experience.
Say Cheese!

Can't leave dad out,

Look I can take a picture of my finger

The water fountain

Maybe she liked those shoes.  (Lets hope not!!!)

The pole and her finger again

The she got into other pictures and decorated them.  I still have no clue how to take her decorations off the picture!
Needless to say I had to delete about a million random pictures off of my phone when we got home.    Successful trip though.  Adam and I passed our tests and will be receiving our licenses in the mail in a week or two.  Our cars also now have legit California plates!

Halloween Fun

We had a really fun Halloween.  Mattie and I did some baking earlier in the day and then after dinner we had some trick or treating fun!
Mattie doesn't like to wear pants when she bakes.

She had flour all over her and me!

Princess Sofia

A little unsure at first

What is this stuff you call candy???  It is awesome!

A Birthday and a Really Big Bridge

On Sunday since it was my birthday we took a fun trip to the Golden Gate Bridge.  I had never been and really wanted to do something fun and memorable on my 31st.  Did I say 31st?  I meant 29th ;)  It was such a great day.  We had so much fun and ended up getting to see the most incredible views of the GGB.  We drove to Battery Spencer and on up to Hawk Hill.  If you are going to see the GGB this would be my recommendation.

Such a great way to spend my Birthday.  California really is such a beautiful place.  We walked around and took it all in, then it was time to head back home.  When we got into the car Adam decided he wanted to drive over the bridge.  I started laughing of course.  After 5 years of marriage and 9 years together I know nothing stresses Adam more than driving in the city.  When I stopped laughing I realized he was serious.  So off we went over the bridge.  I will say that we both thought that as soon as we got over the bridge we would take an exit turn around and go back.  That didn't exactly happen.  We accidentally (thanks to our phone GPSs) ended up driving in the middle of downtown!!!  Yikes!!!  Thankfully Karen (the real GPS) decided to start working and she came to our rescue and got us out.  Oddly enough Adam was calm and collected and I was the one sweating bullets!

Going over the bridge before things went wrong :)
I'm freaking out!!!

Mattie was not freaked out about driving in the city.

After we managed to navigate our way back to the wonderful suburbs, we rewarded ourselves with a little treat.

Great weekend here in San Fran.  We became legit Californians, rocked Halloween's socks off, and Adam made sure I had an unforgettable birthday!  Awesome!
